Pelvic Floor Health: Exercise And Tips

Here are some exercises and tips to help strengthen and maintain pelvic floor health:

Kegel Exercises:
        •       Kegel exercises involve contracting and relaxing the pelvic floor muscles to strengthen them. To perform Kegels:
        •       Identify the pelvic floor muscles by stopping the flow of urine midstream or by tightening the muscles that prevent passing gas.
        •       Contract these muscles for 5 seconds, then relax for 5 seconds. Repeat this 10-15 times, several times a day.
        •       Gradually increase the duration of contractions as strength improves.
Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy:
        •       For individuals with pelvic floor dysfunction or weakness, pelvic floor physical therapy with a trained therapist can provide personalized exercises and techniques to improve muscle strength and function.
Maintain a Healthy Weight:
        •       Excess weight can put pressure on the pelvic floor muscles and contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction. Maintaining a healthy weight through a balanced diet and regular exercise can reduce this pressure.
 Avoid Straining:
        •       Straining during bowel movements can weaken the pelvic floor muscles. Ensure adequate fiber intake, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged periods of sitting on the toilet.

Pelvic Floor Health: Exercise And Tips

Here are some exercises and tips to help strengthen and maintain pelvic floor health:

Good Posture:
        •       Maintaining proper posture can help support the pelvic organs and reduce strain on the pelvic floor muscles. Practice sitting and standing with a straight back and pelvis aligned.

Manage Chronic Coughing:
        •       Chronic coughing can strain the pelvic floor muscles. Seek treatment for underlying conditions that cause coughing, and practice techniques to reduce coughing episodes.

Pelvic Floor Friendly Exercises:
        •       Certain exercises, such as squats, lunges, and core-strengthening exercises, can help support pelvic floor health when performed correctly. Avoid exercises that place excessive strain on the pelvic floor, such as heavy lifting or high-impact activities.

Pelvic Floor Relaxation Techniques:
        •       In addition to strengthening exercises, practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, yoga, or meditation can help reduce muscle tension and promote pelvic floor health.

Regular Pelvic Exams:
        •       Regular pelvic exams with a healthcare provider can help identify any issues with pelvic floor health early on and ensure prompt treatment if needed
