IUI Treatment
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) treatment is a fertility treatment that involves placing sperm directly into a woman’s uterus to facilitate fertilization and increase the chances of pregnancy.

IUI Treatment:

Here’s a step-by-step guide for undergoing IUI treatment:

  • Initial Consultation: Schedule an appointment with a reproductive endocrinologist or fertility specialist to discuss your medical history, fertility concerns, and suitability for IUI treatment. Your doctor will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to assess factors such as ovarian function, sperm quality, and reproductive health.
  • Ovulation Induction: If you have irregular or absent ovulation, your doctor may recommend ovulation induction medication to stimulate the development and release of eggs (ovulation). This may involve oral medications such as clomiphene citrate or letrozole, or injectable gonadotropins.
  • Monitoring Cycle: Throughout your menstrual cycle, you will undergo regular monitoring through blood tests and ultrasound examinations to track the development of follicles in the ovaries and determine the optimal timing for insemination. This monitoring helps ensure that the IUI procedure is performed at the most fertile time of your cycle.
  • Semen Sample Preparation: On the day of insemination, your partner or a sperm donor will provide a semen sample at the fertility clinic. The semen sample is processed in the laboratory through a process called sperm washing, which concentrates the healthy sperm and removes seminal fluid and non-motile sperm.

IUI Treatment:

Here’s a step-by-step guide for undergoing IUI treatment:

  • Insemination Procedure: Once the semen sample is prepared, the IUI procedure is performed. You will lie on an examination table, similar to a pelvic exam, while a speculum is inserted into the vagina to visualize the cervix. A catheter containing the washed sperm is then inserted through the cervix into the uterus, and the sperm is deposited directly into the uterine cavity.
  • Post-Insemination Rest: After the insemination procedure, you may be advised to rest for a short period before resuming normal activities. Some women may experience mild cramping or spotting following the procedure, which is normal and usually resolves quickly.
  • Progesterone Supplementation (Optional): In some cases, your doctor may recommend supplemental progesterone support to help support the uterine lining and improve the chances of implantation. This may involve oral or vaginal progesterone supplements taken for a specified duration after insemination.
  • Wait for Pregnancy Confirmation: Following the IUI procedure, you will wait for approximately two weeks before undergoing a pregnancy test to confirm whether the treatment was successful. If pregnancy occurs, you will follow up with your doctor for ongoing prenatal care.
  • Repeat Cycles (If Necessary): If pregnancy does not occur after the first IUI cycle, you may undergo additional treatment cycles as recommended by your doctor. Each treatment cycle is typically spaced approximately one month apart.
